Arrival by your Own Transportation
The access road leading to the resort through the National Park is a natural dirt road and not well maintained.

- Koh Yao Noi Island -
A Hidden Corner of Paradise

Accessible only by boat, the small rustic island getaway of Koh Yao Noi, the “Little Long Island”, is in Phang Nga Bay in Southern Thailand. The smaller of the two Koh Yao islands, Koh Yao Noi can be found between the popular destination of Phuket to the west and Krabi mainland on the east. The 60-minute speedboat ride makes Koh Yao Noi easily accessible from Phuket but keeps the busy crowds away from the tranquil landscape on the small peaceful island. Koh Yao Noi remains one of the last large islands in Thailand that remains largely untouched by mass tourism, paired with the fact that large portions of the island are dedicated national parkland, makes it the perfect destination for those truly looking to slow down, soak in the pristine and beautiful nature of Phang Nga or escape for a private romantic getaway.

Paradise Koh Yao Resort is located in the remote northern tip of the island. A small winding road through the national parkland connects the resort to the more populated area center and southern areas of the island, but the easiest method for reaching the resort is by boat. The resort does provide transfers to and from Phuket and Krabi or for the more travel savvy and adventurous, guests can organize their own transportation to the resort through taxis and ferries. In an effort to keep economic benefits localized the resort does not organize pick-ups from the Koh Yao Noi’s local ferry terminal and would recommend using one of the 4×4 SUV taxis found close by to bring you that last step to the resort.

About Koh Yao

The island of Koh Yao Noi is still largely unspoiled and untouched. The is covered in lush tropical foliage. The island is situated in the middle of Phang Nga Bay, between Phuket and the mainland of Krabi. Phang Nga Bay is known for its’ unique limestone formations and pristine beaches and was most famously captured in the James Bond film – “The Man with the Golden Gun” and “The Beach” with Leonardo Di Caprio.

The island is the smaller of the two Koh Yao islands (the other being Koh Yao Yai). Koh Yao Noi is peaceful, quiet, and tranquil; the perfect place to get away from the crowds of the more well-known tourist hubs of Phuket and Ao Nang, Krabi.

Local Community

The 3,500 or so inhabitants of Koh Yao Noi, are thought to be recent migrants from the Malay Peninsula (Satun, Trang). The most recent migrations (17th-18th century) from Satun and Trang to Koh Yao Yai and Koh Yao Noi is attested to by the fact that the dialect spoken on the island still bears obvious Malaysian lexical traces, particularly regarding toponyms and vernacular names of the flora species. The main industries on the island are fishing and rubber planting. A little rice farming and some fruit, palm and coconut plantations are also abundant on the island. Boat building and farming techniques here have been passed on from father to son for generations, and while some of the youngsters leave Koh Yao to seek the bright lights of Phuket, most return to their tight-knit community.

Culture

There are no nightclubs, beer bars or other forms of ‘night’ entertainment. These things tourists can find elsewhere in abundance. Koh Yao Noi’s community objectives are to preserve the lifestyle of the local fishermen, help visitors understand the history of the local people through authentic and mutually respectful cultural exchange, preserve the local environment and of course provide the local people with an alternate source of income. Paradise Koh Yao has a variety of excursions to take you right into the heart of island life, or you may even choose the more adventurous options of hiking or mountain biking from the resort. Fully experiencing the island of Koh Yao Noi is about combining nature, local lifestyle, and fresh seafood. You may even like to participate in local lifestyle activities such as fishing, or even working in the rice fields.
